With this technique, we use Sticky Powder sticky embossing powder and
tiny no-hole glass beads (in 20 different colors).

This same technique works great with glitter, colored sand, diamond dust, ground spices, coffee grounds, seeds, etc.
The Basics - instructions for the leaves are at the bottom of the page
Ink up your stamp with any pigment or embossing ink (no quick drying inks). Make sure your stamp pad is good and wet. If you are using clear or opaque (any non-metallic) glass beads, the color of your ink will show through. Because the Sticky Powder melts faster than regular embossing powder, we recommend you experiment with a colored ink. You'll see the color change as the Sticky Powder melts and know to move on quickly before you overheat the powder.
Our favorite stamp pad to use is the Versamark watermark pad. It is wet and sticky and really allows you to get a good covering of Sticky Powder.

Stamp.

Apply Sticky Powder like you would embossing powder. We have ours in a plastic container and dip our paper in it.
Shake off any extra powder.
Check to make sure all the image is covered with Sticky Powder. Apply again if needed.
To avoid blowing away some powder, heat up your heat gun.
Heat image. This does not take as long as regular embossing powder. Move on quickly as the powder melts. If you overheat the powder, it will no longer be sticky.
Apply glass beads. Very gently, shake the card to remove any extra beads. You can gently brayer over the beads to press them into the powder if desired.
Check to make sure your image is covered.
To set the beads, heat up the card from the back. Once the glue gets good and hot, set card aside to cool.
Once the card cools, the beads will be set. Do this same technique for any heavier meduims -- glitter, colored sand, diamond dust, ground spices, coffee grounds, etc. If you are using lighter m ediums --foils, chalks, powders, gold leaf, etc. -- there is no need to heat a second time to set.
Instructions for outlined leaves
Follow the basic steps above. After melting the Sticky Powder, sprinkle beads in your outline color on the card stock (NOT on the image). Tilt and turn the card allowing the beads to roll around and stick to the outside edge of the image. Pour off excess beads.
If you want to add some highlights to the main image, sprinkle a few beads in the outline color over your image. Cover the rest of the image with your main color. Pour off excess beads. You may choose to use a soft brayer to roll over the design to help set the beads. Use your heat gun to heat the underside of your card to set the beads.
This technique was thought up by our youngest son who helped us at the Milwaukee rubber stamp convention -- when he wasn't up to his April Fool's shenanigans! (Our apologies ~giggle giggle~ to the other vendors!!)
